Pre-registration is required for the Second Saturday tournaments as brackets must be drawn up in advance of the competition. The email address that the captain submits on the official roster form will be used to communicate information prior to the start of the tournament regarding schedules, rules, policies, and procedures. All equipment necessary to compete in the tournament will be provided by Campus Rec. All outdoor tournaments will be "weather dependent" with the possibility of moving the competition day in the case of inclement weather.

SS Regatta Rules

Materials provided: Cardboard, Duct Tape (One 60yd roll per team), Scissors, Box Cutter.
 - Only the items listed above may be used to build boats.

  • Teams must have a minimum of one (1)/maximum of two (2) people in the boat; maximum of four (4) are allowed at the start line to captain and/or assist with launch. Additional team members are able to help with the boat design and build only. 
  • Boats must be built on Saturday, Feb. 3 and must pass inspection prior to racing.
    • Boat building will take place in the El Pomar Sports Center, Great Hall on Saturday, Feb. 3 between 9:00AM – 2:00PM
    • Boat inspections will take place at 2:00PM and the race will begin at 2:15PM
  • Design is the builder’s choice.
  • No wrapping in tape, however, tape may be used to reinforce the bottom of your boat.
    • Each team will only have – one 60yd roll of duct tape (provided)
  • Boats must be propelled using cardboard paddles.
    • Paddles must meet the same construction requirements as the boats.
  • Boats must be completely enclosed or permit the crew to remain fully on top of the vessel (You are not permitted to have dangling extremities).
    • The boat’s passenger area must not be enclosed above the occupant’s shoulders to avoid interference with escape should the vessel begin to sink.
  • The race will be 50M (down and back).
  • Team members who start the race must finish the race without leaving the interior of the boat. If a team member exits the boat for any reason during the race, the team will be disqualified.
  • When a boat has finished the race, the team must remove the boat and any leftover cardboard debris from the water area and dispose of it at the designated trash area.
  • Teams are not allowed to sabotage anyone else’s boat. Any rough housing in the water will lead to disqualification.
  • All participants must be wearing a bathing suit and shorts (no denim).
  • Team members must supply their own towels.
  • Judging will be based on time at the completion of the race or distance traveled and time the boat sinks.

Bring a change of clothes, you WILL get WET!!
