Plant Library

The mission of the Plant Library is to educate students about the many benefits of houseplants and support the propagation of houseplants throughout CC’s residential spaces. Indoor plants provide healthier air, minimize stress, reduce mental fatigue, and improve productivity. This program is designed to help make caring for plants more accessible for students who may need to leave campus for breaks throughout the school year or study abroad opportunities. This pilot program launched in the spring of 2024 will be returning to the student community this academic year.

Check Out A Plant Today

How to Get Started

Plant Library Pop-Up events will take place throughout the year, offering students a chance to browse and check out plants in person.

If you have questions or missed a Pop-Up but would still like to participate, don’t worry! Just reach out to the Office of Sustainability at sustainability@coloradocollege.edu, and we’ll help you get connected with a plant.

The first Plant Library Pop-Up will take place during Block 1 and will be announced through our social media channels and the CC Digest/Today@CC.

Plant Library Program Expectations

Once you’ve selected a plant of your choice, we ask that you sign a brief agreement confirming:

  • Your participation in the Plant Library program,

  • Your responsibility for caring for the plant(s) you check out.

To participate, a refundable cash deposit ($15) is required at the time of selection.

You’ll receive your full deposit back at the end of the semester or academic year, provided that:

  • Both the plant and pot are returned,

  • The plant is in a healthy condition, or you return a propagated portion of it,

  • The plant is returned during the designated return window at the Office of Sustainability.

Each plant is intended to be “checked out” for one semester or academic year. This helps ensure others also have the opportunity to enjoy living with and caring for a plant. 🌿
