E-Waste Recycling

E-waste or electronic waste are products that are no longer working, unwanted, or at the end of their 'life'. While above the ground, modern electronics are safe to use. However, most electronics contain some forms of toxic materials that when discarded and buried at a landfill, they pose serious risks to our environment.

With the definition of e-waste continuing to expand, due to being in an era of rapid technological advancement. It important that we do our part by being conscious of our consumption and recycling older models of e-waste. Therefore, CC is committed to responsibly recycling our e-waste at a local Colorado Springs facility, E-Tech Recyclers

E-Tech Recyclers focus on sustainable and responsible recovery of end-of-life electronics. They work to empower those in the community, such as business owners and organizations to take responsible, secure, and charitable approach to e-waste recycling. All electronics are properly recycled through vendors that are chosen specifically for their environmental, health, and safety standards.

Where to Recycle E-Waste?

To ensure proper disposal and environmental stewardship, different types of electronic waste (e-waste) at Colorado College are handled through different departments. Please follow the guidelines below:

Items Accepted at Self-Service Drop-Off Locations

If you have a small amount of e-waste, we encourage you to use one of the campus drop-off bins. These bins primarily collect small electronics, batteries (see battery guidelines), and printer ink cartridges.

Drop-off bin locations:

  • The basement of Worner Campus Center (across from the stairs)
    • Ink and toner cartridges are accepted here.
  • First floor of Tutt Library (across from the front welcome desk)
    • Ink and toner cartridges are accepted in Tutt Library (next to ITS).
  • Office of Sustainability (first floor)

Larger or Bulk E-Waste Collections

For large items or multiple items of e-waste, please schedule a pickup or drop-off with the Office of Sustainability. During the academic year, please fill out the form - located on the sidebar. During summer, you can reach out directly to Program Manager, Mae Rohrbach at mrohrbach@coloradocollege.edu.

The Office of Sustainability also hosts e-waste collection events five times a year. Details are shared through on-campus communications. See more information on the sidebar.

College-Owned Computer Disposal

All college-owned computers must be processed through ITS to ensure secure data wiping and proper disposal.

For more information on:

  • Lifecycle replacement
  • Hardware repair
  • Secure data disposal

Visit the ITS website or contact the Help Desk. Devices should be delivered directly to the ITS Solutions Center on the first floor of Tutt Library.

Hazardous Waste & Freon Disposal

Items that contain hazardous materials or Freon (e.g., refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, etc.) require special handling and will be handled by Facilities Services.

Please submit a work order to Facilities Services: Submit a Facilities Work Order

Personal E-Waste Update: Effective 7/1/2025

Due to a change in Colorado College’s e-waste contract, this program is now intended exclusively for college-owned electronic equipment. We are no longer able to accept personal or non-college items. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. For local e-waste recycling services, please see the sidebar for more information.
