Guide Training: Fall 2024

 

Outdoor Education's Guide Training course is open to all Colorado College students with an interest in exploring the outdoors. Through a blend of classroom instruction and practical field experiences, this course develops participants technical outdoor skills and explores the foundations of outdoor education, group facilitation, and environmental ethics. Participants will receive certifications in CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and Leave No Trace.

This is an intensive course that takes place throughout Block 2 and Block 2 break. Selected participants are required to attend all training components. Missing any training session will result in the forfeiture of your deposit and removal from the course.

Important Dates

  • Applications Open: Aug 19, 2024
  • Applications Close: Sept 3, 2024
  • Interest Meeting: Aug 30, 2024 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Guide Training applications opens on August 19th and closes on September 3rd. Guide Training applications will be reviewed and candidates that are selected to advance to the final interview stage will be notified on or before September 5th. Interviews will be conducted from September 9th to the 13th and will last roughly 30 minutes. Once all the interviews are finalized, candidates that have been selected will be notified by September 16th. Candidates that are selected must pay the course deposit by September 18th. Upon successful completion of the course, deposits will be returned.

A deposit of $350.00 is required for selected applicants. The deposit is due by September 18th. Deposits will be returned after completion of the training. Failure to attend all training sessions will result in the loss of your deposit and removal from the course. If you are concerned that the deposit will create a financial hardship for you, there will be financial aid options available.
While this course covers the skills necessary to join Outdoor Education's team of student guides, participation does not guarantee you will be selected as an Apprentice Guide. Please apply separately for an Apprentice Guide position if you are interested in volunteering with Outdoor Education.
