Submit an Engagement Opportunity
The Collaborative for Community Engagement (CCE) welcomes requests from the community seeking individual or group volunteers for one-time or ongoing projects that may not be met by Community Engaged Learning Courses or current CCE programs. Such requests might broadly address ongoing needs such as tutoring, delivering meals to those in need, teaching English as a second language, or addressing a particular local social issue. Other requests might focus on one-time events, such as a Monument Valley Clean ups, trail maintenance, fundraising event support, or planning an event for elderly residents of a nursing home.
While the CCE cannot guarantee a student response, we will post the request in our community engagement platform Summit and share on our Volunteer Opportunities webpage. Volunteer requests will also be advertised in our weekly digest to students.
Please consider the following when submitting an engagement opportunity:
- The CCE gives priority to requests from community organizations in Colorado Springs.
- The CCE operates on the block plan, meaning our students take courses one at a time for 3.5 weeks. Most classes run M-F, 9am-12pm with some student also enrolled in labs that run from 1-3pm. Afternoon, evening, and weekend opportunities best align with our students’ schedules.
- Students will contact organizations directly so the organization may monitor how a specific need is met.
- Please share a timeframe by when the volunteer request would no longer helpful so that we can remove it from our opportunity list. In other words, if it is an ongoing opportunity but the program only lasts three months.
- Individuals voluntarily participate in and assume and accept full responsibility for the known and unknown risks of activities listed on our volunteer opportunities page. CC and the CCE do not assume responsibility for or insure participants’ safety or eliminate any of these risks.
- Community Organizations are responsible for preparing students for the submitted opportunities to include orientations or trainings as necessary and ensure CC volunteers are aware the organization's risk management and emergency procedures.
- Requests must be agency-based. The CCE will not post requests for individual needs in the home, such as caretakers and drivers. The CCE works to build long-term partnerships for sustained engagement in the local community and for student learning and development and therefore do not accept requests from individuals.
Special requests involving service in a private residence (e.g. tutoring, yard work, etc) or transporting individuals (e.g., to appointments, schools, etc) will not be processed.
How to Make a Request
Please share opportunities 2-3 weeks in advance of the activity. Please share the specific need, including dates, times, and number of volunteers required. Be sure to clearly define the responsibilities of the volunteer and share the appropriate organizational contact for students to contact to get started.
