What Is Light Pollution?
According to the IDA, light pollution is defined as "the inappropriate or excessive use of artificial light." There are four main components of artificial light: skyglow, glare, light trespass, and clutter.
Skyglow

Brightening of the night sky over inhabited areas
Glare

Excessive brightness that causes visual discomfort
Light Trespass

Light falling where it is not intended or needed
Clutter

Bright, confusing, and excessive groupings of light
