Art Major Requirements

The Art Department has updated its major requirements, effective November 2022.

A student majoring in Art may concentrate in art history, art studio, design studies, or museum studies. Students must complete at least 11 units in the Art major.

Art History

  1. Seven units of Art History courses, including at least one at the 300 level
  2. Two units of Art Studio courses
  3. Two units of capstone courses (AH412 and AH415)

Art Studio

  1. Seven units of Art Studio courses
  2. Two units of Art History courses
  3. Two units of capstone courses (AS411)

Design Studies

  1. AS103 Art Studio Foundations: Drawing or AS102 Art Studio Foundations: 2-D Design
  2. AS114 Art Studio Foundations: 3-D Design
  3. AS212 Design Workshop
  4. Four additional units of Art Studio courses in consultation with major advisor
  5. Two units of Art History courses
  6. Two units of capstone courses (AS411 or AH412 and AH415 or AH412 and AH416)

Museum Studies

  1. MS247 Introduction to Museum Studies
  2. Two additional units of Museum Studies courses
  3. Four units of Art History courses
  4. Two units of Art Studio courses
  5. Two units of capstone courses (AH412 and AH416)
