Critical Perspectives: Quantitative Reasoning improves students' ability to think about and engage with numerical data across academic disciplines and interdisciplinary programs. Students with strong quantitative reasoning skills are competent in and comfortable with solving numerical problems ranging from everyday situations to highly sophisticated academic contexts. Such students can work with quantitative material at levels ranging from description to application and from evaluation of quantitative arguments to development of their own quantitative arguments. Students with strong quantitative reasoning skills can also communicate the concepts with which they are working, the tools they are using, and their findings across contexts and levels of learning.

Courses receiving the Quantitative Reasoning designation will enhance quantitative reasoning though some combination of the following:

• Introduce students to quantitative concepts and tools for quantitative analysis;
• Provide practice in working with various types of quantitative data in various contexts;
• Enable students to carry out quantitative work at different learning levels (e.g., description, explanation, application, evaluation, development of original work); and
• Emphasize communicating quantitative concepts and findings
