Energy Usage

For 2019, the College's carbon emissions from energy use are estimated at 15,500 MTCO2 for a reduction of 36.6% compared to the 2008 baseline. This year 6.6% of the electricity used on campus was produced from on & offsite solar. 4.0% of the electricity consumed was produced from on-campus solar arrays.

Water Usage

In the latest AASHE Sustainable Campus Index, CC is a top performer in the Water category out of approximately 280 other universities and colleges across the nation leading efforts in water conservation and education. In 2019, Colorado College posted a 47 percent reduction in total water use of vegetated grounds since 2008, CC's baseline year.

Progress

• Colorado College achieved its decade-long goal of becoming carbon neutral.
• CC has invested in a methane destruction project at the Larimer Country landfill in Northern Colorado. This project prevents methane (CH4), a very potent greenhouse gas, from entering the atmosphere, and instead uses the CH4 to generate electricity directly to the Larimer County community.
