The Rag

The Rag (fka The Monthly Rag) is a student publication sponsored by the Feminist & Gender Studies Department that publishes feminist analyses and ideas. Along with posting print editions on campus, we began publishing digital editions on Dr. Heidi R. Lewis' website during the 2015-16 AY. Those editions are now available below, and previous editions may be accessed via the Colorado College archive.

Call for Submissions

Stylized images of protestors. Text: The Rag Is Back. Email submissions to monthlyragsubmissions@gmail.comThe Rag, Colorado College's student-run feminist and counter-cultural zine, is officially back and ready for submissions for our first edition of 2025!

We're looking for honest, messy, radical, reflective, and creative work from students, staff, and faculty across campus. This is a space to explore feminist ideas, critical thought, personal experience, politics, and art, all outside of traditional academic constraints.

What We Are Seeking:

We welcome all forms of work relevant to feminist analysis, interests, and ideas—from polished pieces to raw, experimental content:

  • Writing: Poetry, personal essays, critical analyses, manifestos, short fiction, or experimental prose.
  • Art & Visuals: Drawings, illustrations, collages, photography, comic strips, or graphic design.
  • The Unofficial: Gossip, anonymous rants, overheard quotes, satirical news, dream logs, or other forms of uncensored, uncredited observations.

Important Note on Piece Length

We want to publish your best work, regardless of its length. There is no strict word limit on submissions.

  • Long-Form Policy: If you submit a longer written piece, we will select a compelling excerpt, paragraph, or visual component to feature in the printed zine. This featured excerpt will be accompanied by a QR code that links to the full, complete work online, ensuring your entire piece is available to the community.

How to Submit Your Work

The deadline for all submissions for the first edition is Monday, November 17, 2025 (First Monday of Block 4).

Submit digital files (PDF, DOCX, JPG, PNG) to: monthlyragsubmissions@gmail.com (Please make sure the email address is correct before sending!)

Anonymity Options

You can specify how you would like to be credited when you submit:

  • Fully Anonymous: The piece will be published without any credit.
  • Anonymous to Public, Known to Rag Team: The Rag team will know your identity (via your submission email), but it will not be published, allowing us to contact you if we have layout questions.
  • Fully Credited: Your name/handle will be published alongside your work.

We can't wait to see what themes emerge and what voices we can lift up in this first edition.

Best,

The Rag Zine Team
