Created by Dr. Rushaan Kumar and inaugurated during the spring 2018 semester, the Transnational Feminist Film Club screens films that center directors who identify as and tell stories about Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (most often from outside the United States). Screenings are followed by a brief discussion about the film, its thematic and generic contributions, and other unique characteristics.

The club has drawn faculty and staff attendees whose research or personal interests focus on diverse representations from different cinematic traditions across the world and work in various departments and offices, such as Film and Media Studies, Philosophy, Southwest Studies, Philosophy, Religion, Asian Studies, Music, Sociology, Tutt Library, Spanish & Portuguese, and The Butler Center.

Meetings are held each block at Dr. Kumar’s home and sponsored by Feminist & Gender Studies.
