Student Health Insurance Requirements
All students are required to carry comprehensive health insurance while attending Colorado College. To complete the health insurance requirement, between July 3, 2026 – August 31, 2026, students must:
- Enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) offered by the College – Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO OR
- Submit a waiver providing proof of coverage through an individual, family, employer or government-sponsored (such as Medicaid) plan.*
*Please note: Students who do not submit a waiver by the deadline (August 31 for Fall 2026) will be automatically enrolled in SHIP and billed for the semester. No refunds will be issued after the deadline.
CC partners with Academic Health Plans (AHP) to manage the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Students will receive correspondence regarding the enrollment and waiver process directly from AHP, the Wellness Resource Center, and for incoming and transfer students, through New Student Orientation communications.

Students may waive the Student Health Insurance Plan by providing proof of comprehensive health insurance and completing a waiver process. To be eligible for a waiver, the insurance plans must include:
- Essential Health Benefits
- Plans must include unlimited medical and prescription drug benefits
- Have NO pre-existing condition limitation
- Non-emergency (full coverage) in Colorado
- Coverage on the first day of classes and remain active the full academic year
- Provided by an insurance company that is owned and operated in the United States.
Each waiver and insurance plan is reviewed by auditors through Academic Health Plans. Auditors will communicate with students directly about the status of the waiver and if further information is needed. Once approved, the student will receive an email from AHP and will be credited the full SHIP premium amount.
The 2026-2027 health insurance enrollment and waiver period will open July 3, 2026, and close on August 31, 2026. All students must either enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or waive coverage, providing proof of other insurance.
Students who do not complete the waiver process by the opt-out deadline of August 31, 2026, will be auto-enrolled in SHIP and their student account will be charged the fall premium.

Open enrollment for Fall 2026 begins July 3, 2026, and closes August 31, 2026. Students are encouraged to complete the enrollment or waiver process as soon as possible to ensure prompt health coverage and that their student account accurately reflects financial obligations.
