Competitive Communications
Competitive Communications offers training and competitive opportunities for students interested in Speech, Debate, Mock Trial, and Model United Nations. All of our programs provide students an opportunity to develop skills in critical thinking, research, argumentation, oral communication, leadership, and listening. Additionally, students will develop cultural sensitivity and awareness, a nuanced understanding of current events and political processes/systems, and knowledge of how communication can be used to foster different types of relationships.
It's Official. We now host the James 'Al' Johnson and Dr. Mike Edmond's Forensics Invitational!
At this year's annual tournament, we honored a pillar of the Speech & Debate community, Dr. Mike Edmonds, by adding his name to our tournament. While this is our small way of honoring him, we are so deeply grateful that his name will inspire all who attend the James 'Al' Johnson and Dr. Mike Edmond's Forensics Invitational in the future!
In addition to honoring Dr. Edmonds, the Talking Tigers had a fantastic weekend of competition, hosting 5 colleges. We took first place in Extemporaneous Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, and Communicative Analysis; second place in Extemporaneous Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Informative Speaking, and Communicative Analysis; third place in Impromptu; and had 2 quarterfinalists in addition to a first-place Champion in IPDA debate.
