Technology and Affordability
Q: Will I need to bring a laptop?
A: Many students do bring a laptop to CC because they find it convenient to have their own computer. However, CC has many public computer labs that are open to students, as well as a temporary laptop loaner program.
If you want to purchase a computer to bring to CC, the Bridge Scholars Program provides a $400 grant that you can use to purchase an affordable laptop.

ITS suggests getting a solid-state (or flash-based) hard drive that's at least 256 GB (512 GB is a safer bet) and 8 GB of RAM.
There are Dell laptops, for example that cost under $300 that will accomplish the normal minimum tasks that a CC student needs. It won't be the fastest or best computer, but it's a good deal for a very economic price. Note that storage space may be an issue, but can be augmented with cloud storage, an external hard drive, or flash drive.
The college has loaner computers that students can check out for the entire academic year. If you are interested in reserving a year-long loaner computer, please email bridgescholarsprogram@coloradocollege.edu.
Q: If I bring my own laptop or plan to buy one, wouldn't buying software like Microsoft Word be very expensive?
A: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is free for CC students. You can also purchase other academic software at a deep discount through our Kivuto portal.
