New Major and Minor Requirements

NEW DANCE MAJOR AND MINOR REQUIREMENTS

NEW DANCE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS:

Dance majors must complete a minimum of 11 units in the major:

Foundations – Three units:

  • One unit of dance adjunct courses (4 DS adjuncts at .25 units each).
  • One unit from the following: DS 105-106 Dance Fundamentals (extended format over 2 semesters), DA/TH 103: Stage 1: The Performer Prepares, or DA 125: Body in Motion.
  • One unit of DA 212: Dance Mainstage Production or .5 units DA 212: Dance Mainstage production with a .5 unit extended format such as Hip-Hop Performance, Choreo Lab, or Ballet Ensemble.

Creative Core – Four units:

  • DA 221: Choreography.
  • One unit of a creative process course such as DA 230: Video Dance, DA 232: India Away, DA 237: The Art of Insurgency, or DA 200: Topics in Dance with CP designation.
  • One unit of Design: TH 110: Fundamentals of Performance Design, TH 207: Lighting Design or TH 218: Costume design.
  • One unit of a 300-level creative process course for example DA 304: Advanced Performance, DA 311: Global Encounters in Dance, or DA 300: Topics in Dance with a creative process focus.

Other interdisciplinary creative process courses may be approved in consultation with your major advisor and the department chair.

Critical Core – Two units:

  • Two units from following: DA 211 Historical Perspectives in Dance, DA/TH 200: Philosophies of the Body: Bodies and Power, DA/TH 224 Contemporary Performance, DA/TH 204 Feminist and Queer Performance.

Other interdisciplinary critical studies courses may be approved in consultation with your major advisor and the department chair.

Capstone – Two units:

  • DA 303: Creative Research Seminar.
  • DA 404: Senior Thesis.

Dance minors must complete a minimum of 5 units in the major:

Foundations – One unit:

  • One unit from the following: DS adjuncts (.25 unit each), DS extended format (.5 units each), DA 103: Stage 1: The Performer Prepares, DA 125: Body in Motion, DA 212: Mainstage Dance

Creative Core – Two units:

  • Two units of creative process such as DA 221: Choreography, DA 230: Video Dance, DA 232: India Away, DA 311: Global Encounters in Dance or DA 200: Topics in Dance with CP

Other interdisciplinary creative process courses may be approved in consultation with your minor advisor and the department chair.

Critical Core – One unit:

  • One unit of a critical studies course such as DA 204: Feminist and Queer Performance, DA 211: Historical Perspectives in Dance, or a special topics critical studies dance course.

Another interdisciplinary critical studies course may be approved in consultation with your minor advisor and the department chair.

Capstone – One unit:

  • One unit of a 300-level Dance elective or DA 350: Minor Capstone.

NEW THEATRE MAJOR AND MINOR REQUIREMENTS

NEW THEATRE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS:

Theatre majors must complete a minimum of 11 units for the major:

Foundations – Three units:

  • Two units: TH 103: Stage 1: The Performer Prepares and TH 110: Fundamentals of Performance Design
  • · One unit of TH 212: Theatre Mainstage Production or TH 202: Student Theatre Think Tank or .5 unit of TH 212 plus .5 unit of TH 202.

Creative Core – Four units:

  • Three units of 200-level creative process courses such as TH 205: Acting, TH 206: Directing, TH 210: Intermediate Performance Design, TH 217: Playwriting, or TH 200: Topics in Theatre with CP designation.
  • One unit of a 300-level theatre creative process course such as TH 304: Advanced Performance, TH 305: Advanced Acting, TH 350: Design Practicum, TH 300: Topics in Theatre or TH 340: Topics in Design.

Other interdisciplinary creative process courses may be approved in consultation with your major advisor.

Critical Core – Two units:

  • One unit from the following: TH 224 Contemporary Performance, DA/TH 204 Feminist and Queer Performance, DA/TH 200: Philosophies of the Body: Bodies and Power, TH 229: Rewriting America, DA 311: Global Encounters in Dance. TH 303: Creative Research Seminar.
  • TH 404: Senior Thesis.

Other interdisciplinary critical studies courses may be approved in consultation with your major advisor.

Capstone – Two units:

  • TH 303: Creative Research Seminar
  • TH 404: Senior Thesis

Theatre minors must complete a minimum of 5 units in the minor:

Foundations – One unit

  • One unit from a TH 100-level Theatre course such as TH 103: Stage 1: The Performer Prepares or TH 110: Fundamentals of Performance Design.

Creative Core – Two units

  • Two units of creative process such as TH 205: Acting, TH 206: Directing, TH 210: Intermediate Performance Design, TH 217: Playwriting, TH 200: Topics in Theatre with CP designation.

Other interdisciplinary creative process courses may be approved in consultation with your minor advisor.

Critical Core – One unit

  • One unit from following: TH 200: Philosophies of the Body: Bodies and Power, TH 204: Feminist and Queer Performance, TH 224: Contemporary Performance, TH 229: Rewriting America.

Another interdisciplinary critical studies course may be approved in consultation with your minor advisor.

Capstone – One unit

  • One unit of the following: a 300-level theatre course or an independent project: TH325: Project in Theatre or TH350: Design Practicum.
