Explorations with Water: Papermaking, Marbling, and Eleven Mile Reservoir
Nov. 14th: Papermaking in Arts and Crafts, Nov. 15th-17th: Marbling & Artmaking at CC Cabin
Eleven Mile Reservoir is one of Colorado’s largest reservoirs, providing water to Denver and habitat for a diverse variety of fish and wildlife, with five miles of hiking trails. On this block break trip, we will begin at CC, using water to make our own sheets of handmade paper using recycled paper and water-loving plants. We will then go to the CC Cabin for two nights, where we will hike and observe together, then learn suminagashi paper marbling inspired by our time at the reservoir. Students will also be invited to draw, collage, and make books using a variety of art supplies we will bring to the cabin.
All things Icy: Ice Sculpture Festival, ice walk, and ice dyeing
Join us for this ice-inspired Arts in the Outdoors two-part studio creation and outdoor adventuring. On Friday evening we will work in the Arts and Crafts studio to ice dye your own shirt. Ice Dyeing is a process of tie-dyeing with ice which allows for a dynamic flow of the dyes. On Saturday, we will head to the Cripple Creek Ice-Festival to see artists carve large scale ice sculptures followed by a trip to Victory Colorado to take a short ice hike up to meet Rita the Rock Planter a giant wood sculpture troll created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. It will be two fun filled days of everything ice!
