If you miss the campus you are not alone. Over spring break when Katie Wang was playing Minecraft with Eliza Merrall, she suggested they build the CC Campus. This is possible since Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time, in addition to a survival game mode also has a creative mode.
Initially their goal was to build the entire campus. They were quickly overwhelmed by the scope of their project. Recruiting some fellow students made the plan seem much more feasible and work was soon underway building Tutt Library. Although skillsets differ, Minecraft is easy to learn. Arity Sherwood never played before while Patrick McGinnis started playing in middle school.
Over several days of several hours each, they built the library shell. Some moved into working on the interior while others continued exterior construction. They used the library floor plans scrounged from the library's website along with Google images. They switched to Google maps to aid in establishing approximate size and dimensions. Noting a lack of interior photos of the library, Eliza said they did much from memory admitting that she and her friends spend a lot of time in the library when on campus.
They divided up parts into sections. Eliza started with the courtyard concrete, Arity took on the red ribbon and panels while Daniel Turevski built Suzie B's. He added some amusing signs for the others in the café area. They consulted with each other over group facetime calls when in doubt joking about their "new way to do the block plan."
Other people also joined in after Eliza posted to a CC Facebook page about what they were up to. Although only 25 people can "play" at a time, by the end of spring break about 30 people were working on reconstructing the campus. Old friends connected and new friendships were made.
Construction slowed once Block 7 began. However, they are still working on it. The site is private so contact Eliza Merrall if you want to contribute.
