This academic year marks the 50th anniversary of Colorado College’s innovative one-class-at-a-time academic schedule — the Block Plan, in which students take and professors teach one course at a time. Each block at CC is equivalent to a semester’s worth of material at another school.

CC’s celebration of this innovative, immersive learning includes the launch of three interconnected media projects that capture the vitality of the creators of the Block Plan. These projects and various live virtual events illustrate the impact the Block Plan has had on those who have experienced it as faculty, staff, and students.

CC launched the documentary film “The Block Plan” on Valentine’s Day (CC does love the Block Plan, after all). The film, written and co-directed by Associate Professor of English Steven Hayward, takes viewers on a behind-the-scenes journey into the people and places at the heart of the Block Plan.

The college also released “The Block Plan: An Unrehearsed Educational Venture,” by Professor Emerita and former Dean of the College Susan Ashley, and “The Story of the Block Plan: The Podcast,” a podcast series with additional episodes being released during the next weeks.

Several virtual talkback sessions have been scheduled, and include:
