Feminist & Gender Studies is proud to announce Documentaries for Hope and Healing: About Love, collaboration between PBS's POV and the Asian Mental Health Project (AMHP), is currently featuring original artwork and photography from Christie Ma's ('19) collection [no translation accessible].

[no translation accessible], which was also part of Christie's senior capstone project, "is a personal interrogation of Hong Kong-Canadian trauma and healing through the multidisciplinary arts." Christie locates "the diasporic body as an archive of intergenerational knowledge, memory, and history" and locates "identity within and across multiple layers of time and space." As a finalist, Christie spoke at the virtual opening of the gallery about Asian diasporic identity and trauma.

Documentaries for Hope and Healing is a new virtual film screening series that seeks to gather communities together in conversation through the power of storytelling. POV is "television’s longest-running showcase for independent nonfiction films. POV premieres 14-16 of the best, boldest and most innovative programs every year on PBS. Since 1988, POV has presented over 500 films to public television audiences across the country. POV films are known for their intimacy, their unforgettable storytelling and their timeliness, putting a human face on contemporary social issues." AMHP aims to provide knowledge about mental health and mental illness and challenge the belief that "struggling with mental health is a choice or a sign of weakness" by focusing on educational programming, community events, and partnerships. The virtual gallery and screening event was made possible with the support of Open Society Foundations, "the world’s largest private funder of independent groups working for justice, democratic governance, and human rights."
