Congratulations to Francesca Grandonico (FGS ’21) for her Admission to Georgetown Law School!

The Feminist and Gender Studies Department is delighted to share that Francesca Grandonico (Feminist & Gender Studies Major, Education Minor ‘21) will be starting law school at Georgetown University in Washington DC starting this fall.  One of the largest U.S. law schools in the nation, with more than 120 full-time professors and an extensive roster of accomplished adjunct professors from across Washington’s rich legal landscape, Georgetown Law prides itself on giving its students the opportunity to “experience the law first-hand — whether assisting in the drafting of actual legislation, helping a professor prepare oral arguments for a Supreme Court hearing or guiding clients through real legal challenges — all while earning a degree respected around the world.”

Through her studies, Francesca hopes to focus on technology law as it intersects with children's data privacy and K-12 education. She is currently working on the Government Affairs team at an education technology company and would love to return to the K-12 education policy world after completing her law degree. As she recently shared with us: “Learning how to support private and public sector organizations with creating effective policies to protect children from potentially exploitative emerging technologies is extremely interesting to me, and I have much to learn.” Francesca is most looking forward to “returning home to DC and taking classes a few blocks away from Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court, as we experience a key inflection point in American politics and history. I cannot wait to learn how to interpret and speak the language of the law, and apply the frameworks learned in FGS when analyzing the history of our legal system. Grateful is an understatement for how I feel about the critical thinking skills majoring in FGS armed me with, and I am incredibly glad I took four years to experience the workforce before returning to the classroom. Courtrooms seem to be the site to determine the trajectory of American policy these days, and I hope to learn the legal basis of our society with the hopes of making the world just a tiny bit better.”

Congratulations, Francesca!  We are so proud to know you!
