Twelve Colorado College students have been named Fulbright semifinalists. This year’s number of Fulbright U.S. Student Program semifinalists ties CC’s record, which was first set in 2019 and matched in 2021. Additionally, this is the first time in CC’s history that all applicants for Fulbright’s research award have advanced to the semifinalist stage.

The semifinalists are:

Gabriella Morales ’23, English Teaching Assistant award to Mexico

Sydney Morris ’24, research award in forestry to Chile

Koli Razafindandy ’24, English Teaching Assistant award to Switzerland

Skyler Stark-Ragsdale ’21, English Teaching Assistant award to Mozambique

Haley Strom ’24, English Teaching Assistant award to Bulgaria

Chris Wu ’16, study award in design to Taiwan

“That so many of CC's applicants have advanced to semifinalist status this year speaks to the hard work of these students and alums, and of the staff and faculty that support them,” says Roy Jo Sartin, Writing Center Specialist and CC’s Fulbright adviser since 2015.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers three post-graduate opportunities: research, study, and English Teaching Assistant.

The research award allows participants to conduct independent research abroad and the study award allows recipients to participate in a year’s worth of graduate study while abroad. Recipients of the Fulbright English Teaching award work as assistant teachers in English-language classrooms abroad.

Fulbright recipients pursue academic and professional development and growth opportunities through fully emersed cultural exchanges. Fulbright applicants select a country from almost 150 partner countries when applying for the grant. Grant dates and lengths vary by host countries, but typically range from a few months to a year.

Last year, the. U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs selected Colorado College as a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for U.S. students. This acknowledgment is given to U.S. college and universities that had the highest number of Fulbright applicants selected for the 2022-23 Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

Each country notifies finalists on its own schedule, so final results will be announced on a rolling basis through May. Congratulations to our semifinalists!
