Colorado College’s Ed Robson Arena is the host venue for the 2023 World Jump Rope Championships, as well as the 2023 World Junior Jump Rope Championships and the 2023 International Open Tournament. The competitions will be held July 16-23, 2023. The final round for the World Championships will be held on July 22 and 23
Tickets are required for all events and can be purchased here.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to host the World Jump Rope Championships in Robson Arena,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics for Colorado College Lesley Irvine. "It's so energizing to see the vision for the arena come to life as we serve and build community while collaborating with key partners such as the Sports Corp and city leadership. We can't wait to welcome these talented athletes to campus!”
Approximately 3,000 event participants will be in Colorado Springs for these events, with hundreds of additional people traveling to Colorado Springs to watch the competition. There are 15,000 ticket holders for the three events, and approximately 10,000 hotel room nights are booked for the competition, resulting in a huge increase in revenue to the Colorado Springs area. Athletes from 30 different countries will participate in this ten-day event.
Some preliminary action rounds and all final rounds will be held at Robson Arena; practices and other preliminary rounds will be held at the El Pomar Sports Center on the Colorado College campus.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring the premiere jump rope event in the world to Colorado Springs,” International Jump Rope Union President Shaun Hamilton said in the 2022 announcement. “The city has a rich tradition of Olympic and Paralympic sporting events and is one of the global hubs of the Olympic and Paralympic movement. This the perfect location as we welcome our jump rope community back together and continue our journey to future inclusion on the Olympic and Paralympic program.”
Colorado College worked closely on the bid with the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, which works to advance Colorado Springs, Olympic City USA, and the Pikes Peak Region through community and sport events, and VisitCOS, a marketing organization that works to increase awareness of the Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak Region areas.
"The World Jump Rope Championships highlight Colorado Springs on a global stage,” Megan Leatham, Colorado Springs Sports Corporation CEO, said in the announcement last year. “The passion of this community for sports, along with the foundation created by the City for Champions project, will make this the perfect home for this world-class event.”
The athletes competing in these championships are some of the best jump ropers in the world. Featured events include the Double Dutch Contest (which combines urban culture with acrobatics, dance, and music), Single Rope and Double Dutch Speed (where athletes are performing within a time limit), and Single Rope and Double Dutch Freestyle (which combines acrobatics with skill combinations and endurance). This is the second of three events hosted by Robson Arena this summer. Last month, Robson Arena hosted the 2023 USA Weightlifting National Championships. The 2023 U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang will take place later this month.
Ed Robson Arena policies and regulations, including the clear bag policy, will be in effect for all events. Please visit the arena’s website for more information.
