Three Major Events Coming to Robson Arena this Summer

This summer, Colorado College’s Ed Robson Arena is the host venue for the 2023 World Jump Rope Championships, 2023 USA Weightlifting National Championships, and the 2023 U.S. Open Taekwondo Festival.

Approximately 3,800 total athletes will compete at these three events, resulting in a huge increase in revenue to the Colorado Springs area.

This is the first time in almost 100 years of competition that the Weightlifting National Championships will take place in Colorado Springs. The event takes place June 24 to July 2, 2023. Tickets for the Weightlifting National Championships are required and can be purchased here.

In addition to the 2023 World Jump Rope Championships, the 2023 World Junior Jump Rope Championships and the 2023 International Open Tournament will also take place at Robson Arena. Some preliminary action rounds and all final rounds will be held at Robson Arena. Practices and other preliminary rounds will be held at the El Pomar Sports Center on the Colorado College campus.

Approximately 3,000 event participants will be in Colorado Springs for the jump rope events, with hundreds of additional people traveling to Colorado Springs to watch the competitions. There are 15,000 ticket holders for the competitions, and approximately 10,000 hotel room nights are booked. The three jump rope competitions take place July 16 to July 23, 2023, with the final round of the World Championship event taking place on July 22 and July 23. Tickets are required for all events and can be purchased here.

The U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang Festival is one of the largest and most prestigious Taekwondo events in the world. Approximately 1,100 athletes between the ages of four and 90 will be competing. The event takes place July 28 and 29, 2023. Tickets are required and can be purchased here.

Ed Robson Arena is a multipurpose space used for community and college events, as well as where the Colorado College hockey team plays its home games.

“We continue to work to be a strategic resource and centerpiece for the Colorado College and greater Colorado Springs communities,” said Justine Square, executive director of Robson Arena.

Robson Arena is a City for Champions initiative, which began in 2013. City for Champions (C4C) initiatives diversify the state’s economic base and attract significant investment and revenue from outside the state, according to the Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Authority, which is the financing entity for all C4C projects. The other initiatives include the Air Force Academy Visitor Center, the U.S. Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame, the William J. Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center at UCCS, and Weidner Field. These projects are expected to have a major impact, including boosting the region’s $1.25 billion annual tourism industry, attracting over a million visitors a year, and increasing retail sales by $140 million each year.

Colorado Springs was officially designated Olympic City USA in 2015. The city is home to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, as well as over 20 national governing bodies, all located just a few miles away from Robson Arena.

Ed Robson Arena policies and regulations, including the clear bag policy, will be in effect for all events. Please visit the arena’s website for more information.
