Mike is former dean of faculty and director of China studies and the George and Sadie Hyman Professor of China Studies at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced Studies emeritus. Currently, he is senior fellow at the SAIS Foreign Policy Institute and professor emeritus. In January 2019, he became the Oksenberg-Rohlen Fellow and Research Scholar at Stanford University's Asia Pacific Research Center. He served as president of the National Committee on United States-China Relations for ten years. He was also associate professor of political science at Ohio State University. Mike was formerly an adjunct scholar, then director of the China Policy Project at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. and subsequently, founding director of China studies at The Nixon Center. He has published numerous books, journal articles, and popular pieces on Chinese politics, foreign policy, and US-China relations. He is a noted lecturer/speaker on U.S-China relations and the parent of a CC graduate.
