The Colorado College Student Anthropological Society, SAS, was formed in the spring of 1995 to provide a forum outside the classroom where students could exchange and discuss ideas about the discipline of anthropology, to provide student support for majors, to assist with peer tutoring, and to provide an organizational structure for student representation in department meetings, to transmit student concerns to the department, and for participation in department discussions about hiring new faculty, curriculum changes, and other issues of student concern. SAS governance varies according to the current cohort's interest, but typically students elect or appoint officers to lead the group.

The SAS also provides interested students with opportunities to present and discuss their research, for example, a slide show of experiences on an archaeological dig in Honduras. Occasionally, professors are invited to attend the meetings, thus adding to the discussion at hand. Additionally, SAS brings guest speakers in anthropology to the department and college, as well as organizing other events of interest (including discussions of graduate school programs, anthropological careers panels, film series, thematic celebrations). SAS is chartered by and receives funding from the Colorado College Student Government Association (CCSGA); SAS may additionally raise funds or seek departmental assistance when needed.

• Our Goal is to promote anthropological knowledge to the community; we encourage people from diverse academic disciplines, perspectives and backgrounds to participate.
• There are three co-chair positions. Individuals will be elected to these positions by popular vote of club members for the next academic year at the end of 8^th block. The exact number of co-chairs may vary from year to year if approved by a majority vote of the club.
• Meetings will be held every 3rd Monday of the block at 12:15pm. These meetings are open to anyone.
• No individual wishing to be in the organization will be excluded except in cases of disrespectful or harmful behavior. The officers of SAS reserve the ability to ask anyone engaging in such behavior to leave the event or meeting.
