What was your experience at CC like as an Anthropology major?
Because Anthropology is divided between 4 subfields, I gained a more holistic education. I was able to pursue my interests in social and cultural Anthropological work, yet I also challenged myself taking classes in archaeology and the biological history of human cultures. The department was very flexible in helping me pursue my double major and also provided me a wide array of resources to help me succeed in my projects and my future work.
Why were you interested in focusing on Anthropology as your major?
My high school had us choose between history and social/cultural anthropology for our social studies credit. I went with Anthropology and it really opened my worldview on different cultural customs and traditions. When I had an opportunity to pursue Anthropology in college, I knew I wanted to learn more about the subject.
How are you using your major in your post-CC life?
I am currently on a fellowship in Singapore through the organization Princeton in Asia. There I am learning various ways of communication through language (lah is a very popular word here) and customs. I am working at Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Student Develop Office, where I am helping to coordinate its Arts Fiesta annual event and advising various student clubs and activities.
