The scientific consensus is that our planet is changing. To understand these changes, and prepare for a more sustainable future, NASA and other space agencies have been launching instruments into space and making necessary observations of our earth system. In this course, we explore the principles and techniques behind observing earth from space using real-world data from NASA and NOAA missions. We will answer questions such as: 1) How does remote sensing technology work? 2) What can we (and what can we not) measure and monitor from space? 3) What do the data tell us about changes to our earth system? Students will learn how to access, analyze, and visualize remote sensing data to answer questions about environmental events and change.
