IT326 - Animal Histories:
“Until the lion has a historian of his own, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter” (African proverb, and Swart, 2023). When the lenses of historical inquiry are shifted from a human focus to a nonhuman center, the type of histories we discover also changes. This course examines human-animal relations, analyzing them historically. This course may have a different subtitle depending on which type of relation, territory, or history it will focus. These reflections will spring from the Italian tradition of decentering the human experience rooted in Franciscan philosophy. (Not offered 2025-26).
