The Max Kade House

The study of German at Colorado College does not end in the classroom. Our students are an integral part of extracurricular and departmental activities. Over the years, many have gone on to great things but have remained loyal alumni.

The Max Kade House is the German Studies Program's own language theme house on the CC campus. Designed as a full-time residence for 15 students, the German House provides a fantastic atmosphere in which to live and learn. It is also the base for the many extra-curricular German events such as presentations, lectures, musical events, holiday celebrations, fall fest, carnival, and other parties, and especially the Kaffeestunde on the second Wednesday of each Block, from 3:30 to 4:30pm. Everyone interested in German language, culture and meeting new people is invited to come.

The German House is distinguished by its comfortable interior. During the summers of 1997 and 2011, the German House underwent significant remodeling. In addition to general improvements and redecoration, a brand-new kitchen and dedicated billiards room were added. The beautiful Benedictine garden & fish pond invite the students to relax and enjoy their beautiful surroundings. The 'Garden House' provides an additional space for student to study or just relax. If you have any questions about living in the German House, contact the German Studies program.

Moin! My name is Flemming Kampen and I am the German Cultural Program Coordinator for the academic year 2023/2024. I grew up in East Frisia which is located in the very North of Germany next to the Netherlands and in close proximity to the North Sea. With its own language, unique traditions and flat landscape, East Frisia differs greatly from the common perception of Germany. It also happens to be the region with the highest consumption of tea per capita in the world due to the popularity of the traditionally prepared strong black tea!
To pursue my studies, I moved to the small, yet beautiful city of Göttingen where I earned my BA degree in English and Chemistry. I am currently studying towards a MA degree in Education to become a teacher for these subjects. Living and teaching at Colorado College is what I consider to be an excellent opportunity to learn about American culture while also sharing and representing my country´s culture in its diversity.
I am looking forward to meeting you at various cultural events or adjunct courses!
